Alpha — what to expect
First launch: macOS says the app is “damaged”
It isn't — during alpha the app isn't notarized by Apple yet, and macOS quarantines every downloaded unsigned app with that message. After unzipping, run this once in Terminal, then open the app normally:
xattr -cr ~/Downloads/SkooCode.app
(Adjust the path if you moved it, e.g. /Applications/SkooCode.app.) Signed builds come with the beta and remove this step.
What do I need installed?
Just macOS 13+ on Apple Silicon (M1 or newer). SkooCode installs and manages its own agent runtime on first launch. For the free local mode, install Ollama and pull a model.
Is it free?
Yes during alpha. Local mode stays free forever. Cloud effort levels will be part of student-friendly plans after the alpha.
How do updates work?
The app checks for new alpha builds and shows a small Update button when one is available. You can always grab the newest build from this page too.
